The wax needs time to warm up and melt. Burning the candle for less than the recommended time will usually result in a hole burning down the middle of the candle and the wick will eventually drown. Keep the wick trimmed to about ¼ inch to reduce smokiness and dripping. Always burn candles on suitable surfaces, preferably a candle holder or fire-proof dish, which will also catch any dripping wax. Don't expose lit candles to draughts as this results in uneven burning and excessive drippiness. Keep candles out of sunlight to preserve their colours. Use your common sense when playing with fire. Keep candles out of reach of children and animals.
