Balance, Energy & Spiritual Wellbeing Explained
Understanding ourselves, our surroundings and the simple practices that help restore balance, clarity and flow.
Balance is not a destination. It is not a permanent state we achieve and then keep forever. It is something we move in and out of throughout our lives — sometimes gently, sometimes dramatically — and the practices, tools and understanding we build along the way are what help us find our way back.
This guide is the starting point for everything we explore at Sacred Essence. Whether you are drawn to crystals, incense, sound healing, shamanic practice, or simply looking for ways to feel more grounded and clear, it all begins here — with understanding what balance means, why we lose it, and what helps us restore it.
What Is Balance?
When we talk about balance, we mean something much broader than simply feeling calm or rested. True balance touches every dimension of our lives:
Physical Balance
How our body feels — our energy levels, sleep, movement, rest, and the physical environment we inhabit. When we are physically out of balance, we may feel tired, heavy, restless, or unwell without obvious cause.
Mental Balance
The quality of our thinking — our ability to focus, make decisions, see clearly, and hold perspective. Mental imbalance often shows up as overthinking, indecision, mental fog, or a sense of being overwhelmed by things that would normally feel manageable.
Emotional Balance
Our relationship with our feelings — the ability to feel fully without being consumed, to process difficulty without becoming stuck, and to experience joy without needing to hold on to it. Emotional imbalance can look like numbness, reactivity, grief that won’t move, or a persistent low mood without clear reason.
Spiritual Balance
Our sense of connection — to ourselves, to others, to the natural world, and to something greater. When we are spiritually out of balance, life can feel meaningless, flat, or disconnected, even when outwardly everything appears fine.
Environmental Balance
The energy of the spaces we inhabit — our home, our workspace, our bedroom. Environments hold energy, and a space that feels heavy, cluttered, or stagnant can affect how we feel within it, often without us realising why.
Balance in Relationships
The give and take of our connections with others — whether we feel seen, supported, and able to be ourselves, or whether certain relationships leave us feeling drained, diminished, or confused.
Balance in Work and Creativity
Our relationship with what we do — whether our work feels purposeful and flowing, or stuck, misaligned, and draining. Creative blocks, business stagnation, and a loss of motivation are all forms of imbalance that deserve attention.
Why We Become Out of Balance
Life is not designed to be static. We move through seasons, transitions, losses, and changes — and each of these can shift our equilibrium. Some of the most common causes of imbalance include:
- Stress and overwhelm — when demands consistently exceed our capacity to respond
- Grief and loss — which can affect us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually all at once
- Difficult relationships — including those that drain our energy without us fully recognising it
- Busy or cluttered environments — spaces that hold stagnant energy or create constant low-level noise
- Overwork and under-rest — the modern tendency to push through rather than pause
- Technology and overstimulation — the constant pull of screens, notifications, and information
- Conflict — unresolved tension in relationships, work, or within ourselves
- Major life transitions — moving home, changing career, ending or beginning relationships
What Feeling Out of Balance Can Look Like
Imbalance rarely announces itself clearly. More often, it shows up in subtle ways that we might dismiss or explain away:
- Repeating the same patterns in relationships, work, or decisions
- Difficulty making decisions or seeing a clear way forward
- A persistent sense of being stuck, even when nothing is obviously wrong
- Creative blocks or a loss of motivation
- Feeling heavy, flat, or disconnected from things that usually bring joy
- Sleeping poorly, or sleeping a great deal without feeling rested
- A sense that life has lost its flow
- Feeling drained after spending time with certain people
- A nagging feeling that something needs to change, without knowing what
