Mesa or Mestana refers to a cloth used in rituals for blessings or prayers, holding sacred objects. Traditionally crafted with 100% sheep's wool, it is hand-spun, handwoven, and hand-dyed using natural dyes. The term "Mesa" signifies plains, while "Mestana" reflects the high plains.
Note: Aged & Authentic Textiles
These textiles are purchased from individuals not companies and machinery. Sometimes they are fresh off the hand loom and other times have been used in ceremony for many years by the Qero family. We will always make reference to what types reflect in the products.

Peruvian Qero (Q'ero) and Chinchero Shaman Mestana or Mesa cloths serve as personal altar cloths, providing a focused space to wrap sacred items and stones, channeling energy. Handwoven with symbols representing families, traditions, and ancestry, these cloths are rich in cultural significance.
Traditionally, they double as birthing cloths, symbolizing the birthing of oneself along the spiritual path. Each Qero design is unique to the family, woven with tradition and symbology. Ideal for personal-sized sacred cloths, mestanas are utilized by medicine wheel students. The outer cloth symbolizes the outer world, while inner cloths (uncunas or wachalas) represent the inner world, held together by a mesa tie.
