Four Sacred Symbols

This design brings together four animals that can be understood as a symbolic journey through different layers of experience.

Serpent • Lower World

Serpent is associated here with the Lower World — the realm of Earth, body, roots, instinct and deep wisdom.

It represents grounding, renewal and the importance of returning to the foundations beneath us.

Jaguar • Middle World

Jaguar is associated with the Middle World — everyday lived experience, relationships, choices and action.

It represents transformation, presence and the courage to move through change.

Hummingbird • Sacred Journey

Hummingbird represents movement between stages and realms.

Its symbolism centres on resilience, devotion, heart and the willingness to continue the journey even when the path is demanding.

Within this four-symbol design, Hummingbird becomes the traveller between worlds.

Eagle / Condor • Upper World

Eagle or Condor is associated here with the Upper World — wider vision, spirit, wisdom and perspective.

The Condor also carries important associations in Andean cosmology with Hanan Pacha, the upper realm.

Its place in the design represents seeing beyond the immediate moment and gaining a broader view.

Four Organising Principles of Creation

Together, the four symbols form a simple organising sequence:

This is not presented as one universal Indigenous system, but as the symbolic framework used for this Sacred Essence rattle design.

Handmade Shipibo Gourd Rattle

The rattle is made from a dried natural gourd filled with jungle seeds and finished with a wooden handle, yarns, beads and feather details.

Each element is prepared and assembled by hand.

The sound varies naturally according to:

• gourd size and thickness
• seed quantity and type
• density of the shell
• handle construction
• individual craftsmanship

Some rattles may sound slightly deeper or softer, while others have a sharper or more pronounced seed movement.

That variation is part of the character of a handmade gourd rattle.
