The four Koshi 4 Elements melodies were created to work both independently and in combination.

32 Hand-Tuned Steel Rods Across the Set

Each individual Koshi contains eight steel rods.

Across the complete set, that gives you 32 individually hand-tuned rods.

Each rod is tuned by hand before being soldered with silver onto a metal base.

A hard acrylic sphere hangs inside each chime and acts as the clapper.

As the chimes move, the clappers strike different rods in changing combinations.

Because the movement is natural rather than mechanically fixed, the exact sequence of notes changes every time.

Adjusted 432Hz Tuning

All four chimes in the 4 Elements collection use an adjusted 432Hz reference together with Koshi-specific harmonic correction.

This does not mean every rod plays a single 432Hz tone.

Each rod has its own pitch.

The 432Hz reference forms part of the wider tuning system used to balance the complete set of notes and harmonics within each instrument.

Koshi's harmonic correction helps the lower and higher notes respond naturally within the overall structure.

Bamboo Resonance Chambers

Each chime has a treated bamboo resonance chamber.

The steel rods create the fundamental tones, while the bamboo body helps amplify and sustain those vibrations.

This gives each Koshi its characteristic long, soft resonance.

How to Play the Set

Each chime can be held independently by its cord.

Allow the bamboo body to hang freely and move your wrist gently.

The internal clapper will begin striking the rods and creating a changing cascade of notes.

For a more spacious sound, use a gentle pendulum movement.

You can also play two chimes in succession or have several people play different chimes at the same time.

There is no need to shake them strongly.

Gentle movement allows the natural resonance to develop more fully.

Use as Wind Bells

All four Koshi chimes can also be suspended individually where a gentle breeze can move the internal clappers.

This allows them to function as tuned wind bells.

Because the resonance chambers are treated bamboo, permanent outdoor exposure is not recommended.

A sheltered porch, covered balcony or temporary outdoor meditation space is preferable to prolonged rain, frost or harsh sunlight.
