Harvested in such a way that the trees are hand selected and cleared sustainably only selecting from naturally fallen trees in keeping with the sacred wood selection. This oil is purchased from a sustainable managed forest in South America who promote well being incense and oils. The wood that is harvested is from downed trees not live trees cut and sold for their value. One of the unique properties of Palo Santo is its healing and cleansing properties which make the way the wood is sourced so important.

This shaman's sacred incense revered as frankincense has been used by Shaman's, Qero and Indigenous people of the Andes for its purifying and spiritual cleansing properties.

What is Palo Santo?

Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), meaning "Holy Sacred Wood," is closely related to Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copal. This sacred tree, native to South America, has been revered for centuries for its powerful cleansing and purifying properties. The wood is naturally dried, sometimes kiln-dried, before being processed into incense sticks, incense cones, or cold-water distilled into pure essential oil and gum resin incense.

Ethically wild-harvested and honoured, Palo Santo plays a vital role in sustainability. The tree is never cut down while alive but sourced from naturally fallen trees. Sustainable replanting and reforestation programs are in place, supporting local communities and ensuring the preservation of the species for future generations.

Its natural fragrance offers uplifting scents of citrus, pine, and mint, filling any space with a calming energy. Traditionally used by shamans and indigenous peoples of the Andes, Palo Santo continues to be valued for its spiritual and holistic benefits.

Our Palo Santo wood incense and 100% pure essential oil

Comes from sustainably managed plantations in South America. These plantations not only work with the environment but also support local economies. Trees are allowed to grow for 10-20 years, and only after naturally falling and resting on the forest floor for several years are they harvested, allowing the sacred tree's essence to cleanse and rejuvenate its surroundings.

Appearance

Palo santo is a highly resinous wood incense. The appearance can change depending on the time, method and part of the tree the incense came from and how it was dried. Typically, the wood incense sticks are used in rituals and ceremony to cleanse away negative energies and spirits.

What does Palo Santo smell like?

Palo Santo has a rich, aromatic citrus scent with underlying notes of wood and spice. When burned, it produces a black flame initially and smoulders white once the flame is blown out.

The after smell is aromatic and pleasant once the incense has extinguished.

The aroma is known for its powerful properties, including antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects. It's also widely used as a natural insect repellent in summer, for purifying spaces and individuals, offering protection, and clearing negativity. Its fragrance enhances the vibration for prayer, meditation, journeying, ritual, and ceremony.

Why is Palo Santo problematic? Palo Santo has been added to the Convention on International Trade's Endangered Species List due to the increased demand. This tree requires proper harvesting methods, which includes allowing the trees to die naturally and laying them on the forest floor. All our Palo Santo comes from ethical and sustainable plantations that care and preserve the future of this popular incense. The word organic is tricky. Plantations tend to not desire to pay for these style of licence to proof what is natural to them.
