History and Roots
Dr. Alberto Villoldo began his career as a medical anthropologist and clinical professor at San Francisco State University, where he directed the Biological Self-Regulation Laboratory. There he studied how energy medicine could change the chemistry of the brain. Realising he needed a larger framework than neuroscience alone, he left academia to apprentice with
shamans and healers across the Americas.
In the high Andes, he trained with the Q’ero shamans,
inheritors of Inca wisdom and keepers of ancient rites. In the Amazon, he studied with medicine people who worked with plants and visionary traditions. Over decades, Villoldo distilled these teachings into a
coherent path of energy medicine, reconstructing ancient technologies for the modern world.
The Laika, a lineage of seers and healers, safeguarded these teachings in remote mountain communities after the Spanish conquest. Dr. Alberto Villoldo is a medical anthropologist, author, and healer who has spent more than 25 years studying the shamanic traditions of the Andes and Amazon.
Beginning his career as the youngest clinical professor at San Francisco State University, he investigated the relationship between mind, body, and energy fields.
Leaving academia, Villoldo trained directly with Q’ero shamans in Peru and plant medicine healers in the Amazon.
