A small talisman with a long story: this 4cm Chacana (Inca cross) carved from sustainably harvested Palo Santo carries the scent and quiet warmth of the Andean woods, worn as a gentle guardian for everyday ritual, protection and connection. The Chacana’s stepped cross speaks of balance — earth, sky and the three worlds — while the Southern Cross motif points like a compass to ancestral guidance; together they make a necklace that feels both simple and sacred when it rests against your heart.

Use note — Diffusing benefi

To refresh the scent, feed the wood with a very small drop (1–2 drops) of pure Palo Santo essential oil on a bead and let it absorb away from skin. Always perform a skin patch-test first and stop if irritation occurs — avoid direct application to skin if you’re sensitive. The wood will emit the aroma after absorbing the oil. Keep away from children and do not ingest.

A small talisman with a long story: the 4 cm Chacana (Inca cross) carved from sustainably gathered Palo Santo wood brings Andean cosmology down to the level of skin and breath. The wood’s resinous warmth sits quietly against the throat or chest on an adjustable wax cord, making the piece a portable altar for grounding, centring and gentle protection — an everyday companion for ritual, meditation or simply remembering to breathe.

Symbolism & Cosmology

Hold the Chacana and you hold a compact atlas of the Andes. For the Quechua and wider Andean peoples the Chakana is far more than ornament — it’s a mapped cosmology, a stepped cross that carries the geometry of life and the memory of the stars. The Southern Cross motif points to the four bright stars (Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta) that form the Andean cross; read by some as the heart of the sky, those points also name the old regions — Chinchaysuyo (north), Kollasuyo (south), Kuntisuyo (east) and Antisuyo (west) — and echo elemental correspondences: water, earth, fire and air. Worn or held, the symbol invites you to stand at the centre of a turning world, to remember cycles, relationships and the larger story you belong to.

Design & Craft

Made by Peruvian artisans from Palo Santo gathered as seasoned deadwood, each Chacana is hand-carved so small asymmetries and tool-marks remain part of the piece’s voice. Measures approx 4 cm × 6 mm; finished on a waxed, adjustable cord so it sits comfortably for daily wear. Sourcing follows sustainable, artisan-led collection practices where possible, and each pendant carries the quiet evidence of human hands and local craft.

Use & Ritual

Use it as a wearable focus for breathwork, a grounding object for short meditations, or a small ritual piece on your altar. Slip it beneath clothing as a private talisman or wear it openly as a sign of guidance and ancestral connection. It pairs well with offerings (a folded cloth, a small bowl of water, a single grain), with short palo santo clears, or as a point of focus during mantra and bija practice. Think of it as a gentle anchor — a small thing that helps you return to intention throughout the day.

Use note & Diffusing benefit

Feed the wood: To refresh and deepen the palo santo aroma, add a very small amount of pure palo santo essential oil to the wooden beads or pendant. Use a high-quality, 100% palo santo essential oil from a reputable source.

How to apply (safe method):

  1. Test first: place 1 drop on an inconspicuous part of the wood and wait 24 hours to check for staining or finish changes.

  2. If no staining, apply 1 drop to a single bead or the pendant and rub gently so the oil absorbs. For a slightly stronger scent you may use 2 drops, but avoid over-oiling.

  3. Leave the piece to rest for 10–20 minutes (or until fully dry) before wearing so oil does not contact skin or clothing.

Skin-safety / sensitivity:
Always do a skin sensitivity test before you wear an oiled piece. Dilute 1 drop of the essential oil in a teaspoon of a neutral carrier oil (jojoba, sweet almond or similar) and apply a small amount to the inner forearm. Wait 24 hours. If irritation, redness or itching appears, do not use the oil on the jewellery. Even if the oil is applied only to the wood, allow it to dry fully — essential oils can transfer to skin and cause reactions.

Practical cautions:

  • Essential oils are flammable — keep the oiled piece away from open flames and hot surfaces.

  • Avoid contact with delicate or light-coloured fabrics (oil can stain).

  • Keep oils and the bracelet away from children and pets.

  • Do not ingest essential oils.

Maintenance & frequency:
Reapply sparingly: a single drop every 2–6 weeks depending on use and how strong you like the scent. If the elastic or thread becomes oily, wipe gently with a soft cloth and allow to dry.

Energetic note (optional):
Many people find that “feeding” the wood also refreshes their sense of intention — a small practical act that can become a short ritual: add a drop, set an intention and let the scent carry that focus through the day.

Care & Practical Notes

Palo Santo is aromatic wood rather than metal jewellery: avoid long immersion in water and keep it away from strong perfumes or oils that may mask its natural scent. Remove the cord for sleep, bathing or heavy work to preserve the waxed thread. To revive the aroma, warm it gently for a few seconds (do not burn) or, in a controlled setting, pass it briefly near a supervised, smouldering palo santo stick — always follow fire-safety practices.

Encompassing

This Chacana is not a cure-all; it is a small, handcrafted bridge between earth and sky — geometry, story and scent braided into an object you can wear. Treat it with respect for its origins, carry it with intention, and let it be a steady, humble companion on the path: a reminder to come back to centre, honour the ancestors and hold your practice with gentle care.
