Natural and synthetic skin Drum Information

homepage_main_instruments Beautifully hand crafted natural skin Native American drums made traditionally. Remo buffalo synthetic skin drums ideal for ambient weather conditions. Used widely for shamanic journeying, sweat lodges, fire, meditation, reiki and dancing circles. Remo Buffalo Synthetic Drums: Perfect to travel with, excellent sound that holds in all weathers. The 16” is a favorite choice as it tones well for its size and is easy to carry and transport. The 22” benefits from a deeper earth tone. A case to protect the skin is advisable as this helps hold the vibration of the drum and its voice, making it less affected by its surroundings. Natural Skin Native American Drums: Traditionally made North West Native American drums. They come in numerous skin choices and sizes but we find the most popular size is 18” in elk skin. This has a very good resilience to our more European climate allowing the drum tone to hold. Our choice for using Elk Skin offers a very good balance with sound and ambient temperatures. It is not quite as thin or as soft as deer, not as thick as buffalo but still with a beautiful rich tone. Generally when you have one drum you will end up with at least two! A natural skin, and a synthetic drum are both unique and versatile. Our natural skin drums are sourced with best practices supporting native Indian makers and artists, being made as they always have to a very high standard. In our experience the initial tone and sound of the drum is excellent but when tuned becomes even greater. This is achieved by forming a relationship with your drum. Using natural products these drums are simply beautiful. Tuning your drum can be done in many ways. Between you and the drum a voice will grow… Simply by toning together…… Drum Care: If the sound is too high then the skin is very tight: Add 1 or 2 droplets of water rubbing over the face of the drum will help tune it initially. If the drum is extremely cold or what we call flat or loose: then some indirect warmth will bring it back to life! However, regular drumming helps hold its voice. One other extremely important and often over looked piece of information is a drum bag or case. We sit and meditate, drum and journey making the sacred. It is suggested that a protective cover is used to help hold this energy in and around the drum also making ease when travelling. I suppose its like ironing your cloths ready for a dinner date and then leaving them out side on the lawn to get weathered before you need them! Just room for thought! We only use what we feel is the best supplier for our natural skin drums due to the high quality and consistence quality they offer. This can be very hard to achieve. Happy drumming!
