Goloka Nature’s Arruda Backflow Incense Cones 24 Pack • Waterfall Incense for Cleansing & Protection

Goloka Nature’s Arruda Backflow Incense Cones combine a strong aromatic herbal fragrance with the mesmerising cascading smoke effect created by a waterfall incense burner.

Unlike ordinary dhoop or standard incense cones, backflow cones contain a hollow channel through the base. When positioned correctly on a compatible backflow burner, the smoke is drawn downwards to create the familiar waterfall or mist-like effect.

Arruda, also known as rue, is traditionally associated in various folk and spiritual practices with cleansing, protection and warding. Its distinctive herbal character makes these cones especially suited to meditation, ritual preparation and creating a clear, intentional atmosphere.

Herbal. Cleansing. Protective.

Arruda Fragrance & Spiritual Symbolism

Arruda, commonly known as rue, has a long association with cleansing, protection and warding in a variety of folk, household and spiritual traditions.

Its herbal fragrance is bold, green and aromatic, making it a popular choice where a stronger, more purposeful incense atmosphere is desired.

Arruda incense is often chosen for:

  • preparing a space before ritual
  • symbolic cleansing
  • protection-focused practice
  • meditation
  • prayer
  • energy work
  • refreshing the atmosphere of a room
  • creating a sense of spiritual boundaries

These uses belong to traditional and contemporary spiritual practice and should be understood as symbolic or belief-based rather than scientifically established effects.

How Backflow Incense Works & How to Use It

Backflow incense cones are formed with a hollow channel through their base. When the cone is lit and positioned correctly, cooled smoke travels down through this channel and into the burner, creating a cascading waterfall effect.

To use:

  1. Place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.
  2. Light the tip of the cone.
  3. Allow the flame to burn for around 4–8 seconds, or until the tip is glowing.
  4. Gently blow out the flame.
  5. Place the cone directly over the smoke opening in the backflow burner.
  6. Allow several minutes for the downward smoke effect to develop.

For the best result, use indoors away from fans, open windows, air-conditioning vents or other draughts. Even light air movement can disturb the cascade.

Dhoop Cones vs Backflow Cones

Traditional dhoop or standard incense cones and backflow cones are designed differently.

Traditional dhoop cones:

  • normally produce smoke that rises
  • can be used with a standard heat-resistant incense holder
  • do not require a specialised waterfall burner
  • are mainly chosen for fragrance and traditional incense use

Backflow cones:

  • contain a hollow channel through the base
  • are designed for compatible waterfall burners
  • allow smoke to travel downwards
  • create the cascading smoke effect

Although backflow cones are sometimes described as “backflow dhoop cones”, the hollow channel is the key feature that distinguishes them from ordinary solid cones.

Residue & Getting the Best Waterfall Effect

A light oily or aromatic residue can sometimes appear on the burner after backflow incense has been used. This is normal and occurs as incense smoke and aromatic particles cool and collect on the burner.

Always protect the furniture beneath your burner with a suitable heat-resistant mat or tray.

Once completely cool, residue can usually be wiped away with a damp cloth.

If the waterfall effect is weak or the smoke rises instead of falling, check that:

  • the cone is directly aligned with the burner opening
  • the burner is on a flat surface
  • there are no nearby draughts
  • the cone has had several minutes to settle
  • the burner’s smoke channel is clear
  • Arruda for Cleansing & Meditation

The combination of herbal fragrance and slowly descending smoke can create a strong visual and aromatic focus for spiritual practice.

These cones are particularly suited to use before:

  • meditation
  • prayer
  • journalling
  • Reiki or energy work
  • tarot or oracle readings
  • altar work
  • personal cleansing rituals
  • protection-focused practice

A simple intention might be:

“May this space feel clear, protected and peaceful.”

The fragrance and ritual setting can support focus and atmosphere, while cleansing and protective meanings remain part of spiritual belief and personal practice rather than guaranteed effects.

Quick FAQs

How many cones are included?

The tin contains 24 Goloka Nature’s Arruda backflow incense cones.

Do these cones create a waterfall effect?

Yes. They are specifically designed for compatible backflow incense burners.

Can I use them in a normal incense holder?

They can burn in a suitable heat-resistant holder, but the intended downward waterfall effect requires a compatible backflow burner.

Why does backflow incense smoke flow downwards?

The hollow channel through the cone allows cooled smoke to travel down into the corresponding opening of the burner.

How long does the waterfall effect take to start?

It normally develops after several minutes once the cone is smouldering and the smoke begins to cool.

Why is the smoke rising instead of falling?

Check that the cone is correctly aligned with the burner opening and that the room is free from draughts. Air movement can disrupt the cascade.

What does Arruda incense smell like?

It has a strong, aromatic herbal fragrance with a green, cleansing character.

What is Arruda traditionally used for?

Arruda, or rue, is traditionally associated in various folk and spiritual practices with cleansing, protection and warding.

Does Arruda incense remove negative energy?

Cleansing and protection are traditional spiritual associations rather than scientifically established effects.

Why does backflow incense leave residue?

As the smoke cools while travelling down the burner, aromatic particles can settle and leave a light oily residue. This is normal and can usually be wiped away once the burner has cooled.

Are backflow cones the same as dhoop cones?

No. Traditional dhoop cones normally allow smoke to rise, while backflow cones contain a hollow channel designed to direct smoke downwards through a waterfall burner.

Care & Safety

Always place the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface and protect surrounding furniture from heat, ash and incense residue.

Burn in a well-ventilated room while avoiding strong draughts if you want to maintain the waterfall effect.

Never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from curtains, paper, bedding and other flammable materials.

Keep out of reach of babies, children and pets, and take particular care around birds and anyone sensitive to smoke or fragrance.

Avoid directly inhaling concentrated incense smoke.

The cone and burner can remain hot after burning. Allow both to cool completely before touching, moving or cleaning them.

Disclaimer

Cleansing, protective, energetic and meditative meanings associated with Arruda are traditional or spiritual beliefs and are not guaranteed effects. Incense is an aromatic product and should always be burned with appropriate ventilation and fire safety.
