Four Tier Ripple Backflow Incense Burner 8cm • Ceramic Waterfall Smoke Effect

The Four Tier Ripple Waterfall Backflow Incense Burner is a compact ceramic burner designed specifically for backflow incense cones, also known as waterfall incense cones.

When used correctly, smoke travels down through the four rippled tiers, gathering briefly at each level before continuing towards the base. The result is a soft cascading waterfall effect that adds movement, fragrance and atmosphere to meditation spaces, shelves, desks or altars.

Its small footprint makes it easy to place in tighter spaces while still creating a striking visual display.

Compact. Flowing. Atmospheric.

NB: A backflow incense cone is required to create the waterfall effect. These cones contain a small hollow channel through the base that allows smoke to travel downwards into the burner.

Ordinary dhoop or solid incense cones produce smoke that naturally rises and will not create the intended cascading effect.

The waterfall effect may not appear immediately. Depending on the cone, burner temperature and airflow, it can take several minutes and occasionally up to around 10 minutes for the smoke to begin flowing fully.

How a Backflow Incense Burner Works

Backflow incense burners work differently from standard incense holders.

A backflow cone contains a hollow channel through its base. Once the cone is lit, blown out and allowed to smoulder, cooled smoke passes down through this channel and into the burner.

The Four Tier Ripple design then guides the smoke down through each level, allowing it to pool briefly before continuing to the next tier.

For the clearest effect, the opening in the cone needs to be correctly aligned with the opening in the burner.

Four Tier Ripple Design

The stepped ceramic design creates several stages for the smoke to pass through, making the waterfall effect especially visible despite the burner’s compact size.

It is well suited to:

  • meditation spaces
  • home altars
  • desks and shelves
  • Reiki or therapy rooms
  • relaxation corners
  • yoga spaces
  • incense gifts

The flowing design gives the burner a simple, calming appearance that works well with a wide range of backflow incense fragrances.

Backflow Cones vs Dhoop Cones

Not all incense cones will create the waterfall effect.

Backflow / Waterfall Incense Cones

  • contain a hollow channel through the base
  • are designed for compatible backflow burners
  • allow smoke to travel downwards
  • create the cascading waterfall effect

Traditional Dhoop or Standard Cones

  • are generally solid
  • produce smoke that rises naturally
  • can be used with standard heat-resistant incense holders
  • will not create the waterfall effect

For the intended visual effect, always choose cones specifically labelled Backflow, Waterfall or Backflow Dhoop.

How to Use

Place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

Position a backflow incense cone at the top, aligning the hollow opening in the base of the cone with the smoke channel in the burner.

Light the tip of the cone and allow the flame to burn for a few seconds until the tip is glowing.

Gently blow out the flame and allow the cone to smoulder.

After several minutes, the smoke should begin travelling down through the tiers and forming the waterfall effect.

For the smoothest cascade, use indoors away from open windows, doors, fans, air-conditioning vents or other draughts.

Getting the Best Waterfall Effect

Backflow smoke is sensitive to air movement.

For best results:

  • place the burner on a flat surface
  • centre the cone over the opening
  • use a genuine backflow cone
  • keep the burner away from draughts
  • allow several minutes for the smoke to cool
  • avoid moving the burner once the cone is lit

If the smoke rises instead of cascading, first check the cone alignment and surrounding airflow.

Backflow Incense Residue

Backflow incense can leave a light oily or aromatic residue on the burner as smoke cools and travels through the ceramic channels.

This is normal.

Because some residue may also settle beneath the burner, protect furniture with a suitable heat-resistant mat or tray.

Once the burner is completely cool, wipe it gently with a damp cloth.

Regular cleaning helps keep the smoke channels clear and the ceramic looking its best.

A Calming Addition to Your Space

The combination of fragrance and slowly moving smoke creates a gentle visual focal point for meditation, journalling, relaxation or quiet evening rituals.

Different backflow fragrances can be chosen to suit the atmosphere you want to create, from woody and resinous scents to floral or herbal blends.

Its compact 8cm size also makes it a practical gift for incense lovers or anyone creating a peaceful personal space.

Quick FAQs

Does this burner include incense cones?

No. Backflow incense cones are sold separately.

What type of incense cones do I need?

Use cones specifically labelled backflow, waterfall or backflow dhoop.

Can I use ordinary incense cones?

Ordinary cones may burn in a suitable holder, but they will not create the intended waterfall effect because they do not contain the required hollow smoke channel.

Can I use incense sticks with this burner?

No. The waterfall feature is specifically designed for compatible backflow incense cones.

Why isn't the smoke flowing straight away?

The smoke needs time to cool and begin travelling through the burner. The effect can take several minutes and sometimes up to around 10 minutes to develop fully.

Why is the smoke rising instead of cascading?

Check that the cone is correctly aligned with the burner opening and that there are no nearby draughts. Even light air movement can disturb the waterfall effect.

Is residue normal?

Yes. Backflow incense can leave a light aromatic or oily residue as the smoke cools. Allow the burner to cool completely before wiping it clean.

What size is the burner?

Approximately 8cm high × 8cm wide × 6cm deep.

Is it suitable as a gift?

Yes. Its compact size and tiered waterfall design make it an attractive gift for incense, meditation and relaxation enthusiasts.

Care & Safety

Always place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

Protect furniture beneath the burner from heat, ash and possible incense residue.

Never leave burning incense unattended.

Keep away from curtains, paper, bedding and other flammable materials.

Keep burning incense and the hot burner away from babies, children and pets.

Use in a well-ventilated room and avoid directly inhaling concentrated smoke.

If you are pregnant, have respiratory concerns or are especially sensitive to smoke or fragrance, seek appropriate medical advice before using incense.

The ceramic and cone may remain hot after use. Allow everything to cool completely before touching, moving or cleaning.
