Frankincense & Patchouli

Frankincense has been used in incense traditions for centuries and is often associated with prayer, purification and sacred atmosphere. Its fragrance is resinous, warm and slightly citrus-like.

Patchouli brings a darker, earthier base. Its woody depth gives the blend a grounded character and helps balance the brighter frankincense notes.

Together, they create an aroma that feels:

  • warm and resinous
  • earthy and steady
  • contemplative
  • suited to quiet spiritual practice

The fragrance is fuller than light floral incense, so one stick is generally enough for an average-sized room.

Meditation & Mindful Practice

Zen incense can be used to mark the beginning of meditation or to create a clear transition from everyday activity into a more reflective state.

Light a stick a few minutes before sitting and allow the fragrance to settle into the room. Keep the holder at a safe distance so the smoke does not move directly towards your face.

It may also be used during:

  • breathwork
  • journalling
  • prayer
  • yoga
  • card or pendulum practice
  • evening reflection
  • altar preparation

The incense supports atmosphere and intention rather than guaranteeing a particular emotional or spiritual result.

A Simple Grounding Meditation

Place the incense securely in a heat-resistant holder.

Light the coated tip, let it flame briefly, then blow it out gently so the tip continues to smoulder.

Sit comfortably and take three slow breaths.

Repeat:

“I return to stillness, presence and steady awareness.”

Allow the scent to remain in the background while you focus on your breathing.

Traditional Masala Incense

Masala incense is made by blending aromatic herbs, resins and other fragrant materials into a paste that is rolled around a bamboo core.

This creates a deeper, more layered fragrance than incense that is simply dipped in perfume. As the stick burns, the aroma may shift gently between resinous, woody and earthy notes.

Because the sticks are made using natural aromatic materials, small differences in coating, thickness and burn time are normal.

How to Burn

Place the incense holder on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface that can catch falling ash.

Insert the bamboo end of the stick firmly into the holder. Light the coated tip with a match or lighter and allow it to burn for a few seconds.

Blow out the flame gently, leaving the tip glowing and releasing fragrant smoke.

Each stick burns for approximately 45 minutes, although ventilation, humidity and stick thickness may affect the exact time.

To extinguish early, press the glowing tip into sand, ash or another suitable fireproof material. Check that no ember remains.

Natural Variation

Each 15g pack contains approximately 12–15 sticks. The exact number may differ because the incense is packed by weight.

Slight variation may occur in:

  • stick thickness
  • coating texture
  • colour
  • fragrance intensity
  • burn time

Store the pack in a cool, dry place away from moisture, direct sunlight and strong competing fragrances.
