Buddha Backflow Incense Burner 14cm • Peace, Mindfulness & Meditation

The Buddha Waterfall Backflow Incense Burner is a beautifully detailed statement piece designed to bring calm, focus and visual tranquillity into your space.

Larger than many backflow burners, the seated Buddha figure creates a strong focal point for meditation rooms, yoga studios, altars, therapy spaces or peaceful corners of the home. When used with a compatible backflow incense cone, smoke flows gently down around the figure and gathers softly at the base, creating the familiar waterfall or mist-like effect.

The combination of still imagery, fragrance and slowly moving smoke makes this burner especially suited to meditation, reflection and quiet moments of pause.

Peaceful. Mindful. Mesmerising.

NB: A backflow incense cone is required to create the waterfall effect. These cones contain a hollow channel through the base that allows smoke to travel downwards into the burner.

Ordinary dhoop or solid incense cones produce smoke that naturally rises and will not create the intended cascading effect.

The waterfall effect may take several minutes to develop. Depending on the cone, burner temperature and airflow, it can occasionally take up to around 10 minutes for the smoke to begin flowing fully.

Buddha Symbolism & Meaning

Buddha imagery is strongly associated with meditation, mindfulness, inner stillness, compassion and spiritual reflection.

In contemporary homes and wellbeing spaces, a seated Buddha figure is often chosen as a visual reminder to slow down, become present and create a more peaceful atmosphere.

It can symbolically complement:

  • meditation
  • mindfulness
  • quiet reflection
  • yoga
  • breathwork
  • journalling
  • prayer
  • contemplative practice

Buddha imagery also has deep religious significance within Buddhist traditions and should be treated respectfully rather than used purely as generic spiritual decoration.

How a Backflow Incense Burner Works

A backflow incense burner works differently from a standard incense holder.

Backflow incense cones contain a hollow channel through their base. Once the cone is lit, blown out and allowed to smoulder, cooled smoke passes down through this channel and into the burner.

The Buddha design then guides the smoke through its pathways, allowing it to cascade around the figure and gather towards the base before dispersing into the surrounding air.

For the clearest waterfall effect, the opening in the cone needs to align correctly with the corresponding opening in the burner.

Backflow Cones vs Dhoop Cones

Not all incense cones will create the waterfall effect.

Backflow / Waterfall Incense Cones

  • contain a hollow channel through the base
  • are designed for compatible backflow burners
  • allow smoke to travel downwards
  • create the cascading waterfall effect

Traditional Dhoop or Standard Cones

  • are generally solid
  • produce smoke that rises naturally
  • can be used with standard heat-resistant incense holders
  • will not create the waterfall effect

For the intended smoke display, always choose cones specifically labelled Backflow, Waterfall or Backflow Dhoop.

How to Use

Place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

Position a backflow incense cone at the top, aligning the hollow opening in the base of the cone with the smoke channel in the burner.

Light the tip of the cone and allow the flame to catch for a few seconds.

Gently blow out the flame and allow the cone to smoulder.

After several minutes, the smoke should begin travelling down through the burner and creating the waterfall effect.

For the smoothest cascade, use indoors away from open windows, doors, fans, air-conditioning vents and other draughts.

Getting the Best Waterfall Effect

Backflow smoke is sensitive to air movement.

For best results:

  • place the burner on a flat surface
  • centre the cone directly over the smoke opening
  • use a genuine backflow cone
  • keep the burner away from draughts
  • allow several minutes for the smoke to cool
  • avoid moving the burner once the cone is lit
  • keep the burner’s smoke pathways clean

If the smoke rises instead of cascading, check the cone alignment and surrounding airflow first.

Backflow Incense Residue

Backflow incense can leave a light oily or aromatic residue as smoke cools and travels through the burner.

This is normal.

Protect the furniture beneath the burner with a suitable heat-resistant mat or tray, particularly on porous or delicate surfaces.

Once the burner has cooled completely, wipe it gently with a soft damp cloth.

Regular cleaning helps keep the smoke channels clear and maintains the appearance of the burner.

Buddha for Meditation & Mindfulness

The serene seated form makes this burner especially suited to spaces used for meditation or reflective practice.

It can provide a gentle visual focus before:

  • meditation
  • mindfulness practice
  • yoga
  • breathwork
  • prayer
  • journalling
  • Reiki or energy work
  • quiet evening rituals

A simple intention might be:

“May this moment be peaceful, present and clear.”

The flowing smoke and fragrance can help define a ritual atmosphere, while the meaning of the practice remains personal.

A Peaceful Addition to Your Space

At 14cm high, this is a larger-format backflow burner with enough presence to work as both a functional incense burner and a decorative focal point.

It can sit naturally within:

  • meditation rooms
  • yoga studios
  • home altars
  • Reiki or therapy spaces
  • shelves and side tables
  • relaxation areas

It can also make a thoughtful gift for incense lovers, meditation enthusiasts or anyone creating a calmer personal space.
