Bamboo Flow Backflow Incense Burner 12cm • Ceramic Waterfall Smoke Effect

Create a mesmerising cascade of incense smoke with the Bamboo Flow Waterfall Backflow Incense Burner, a compact ceramic burner designed specifically for backflow incense cones.

Shaped like a split bamboo ladder, its stepped channels guide the smoke gently downwards before it gathers at the base, creating the distinctive waterfall or mist effect associated with backflow incense.

NB: A backflow incense cone is required to create the waterfall effect. These cones have a small hollow channel through the base that allows the smoke to travel downwards into the burner.

Ordinary dhoop or solid incense cones produce smoke that naturally rises and will not create the intended cascading effect.

The waterfall effect may not appear immediately. Depending on the cone, burner temperature and airflow in the room, it can take several minutes and occasionally up to around 10 minutes for the smoke to begin flowing fully.

How a Backflow Incense Burner Works

Backflow incense burners work differently from standard incense holders.

A backflow cone contains a hollow channel through its base. Once the cone is lit, blown out and allowed to smoulder, cooled smoke passes through this channel and into the opening at the top of the burner.

The Bamboo Flow design then guides the smoke down its stepped ceramic channels, creating a soft cascading effect before the smoke gathers at the base and disperses into the room.

For the strongest visual effect, the cone and burner openings need to be correctly aligned.

Bamboo-Inspired Design

The tall, stepped form takes inspiration from bamboo, creating a simple nature-led appearance that works well in both contemporary and spiritual interiors.

Its compact vertical shape makes it especially suitable for:

  • meditation spaces
  • home altars
  • Reiki or therapy rooms
  • desks and shelves
  • yoga spaces
  • relaxation areas
  • spiritual or wellbeing gifts

Bamboo is often associated in contemporary symbolism with growth, flexibility, balance and resilience, complementing the flowing movement of the incense smoke.

Backflow Cones vs Dhoop Cones

Not all incense cones create a waterfall effect.

Backflow / Waterfall Incense Cones

  • contain a hollow channel through the base
  • are designed for compatible backflow burners
  • allow smoke to travel downwards
  • create the cascading waterfall effect

Traditional Dhoop or Standard Cones

  • are generally solid
  • produce smoke that rises naturally
  • can be used with ordinary heat-resistant incense holders
  • will not create the waterfall effect

For the intended visual effect with this burner, always choose incense specifically labelled Backflow, Waterfall or Backflow Dhoop.

How to Use

Place the Bamboo Flow burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

Position a backflow incense cone at the top, aligning the hollow opening in the base of the cone with the smoke channel in the burner.

Light the tip of the cone and allow the flame to burn for a few seconds until the tip is glowing.

Gently blow out the flame and allow the cone to smoulder.

After several minutes, the smoke should begin travelling down through the burner to create the waterfall effect.

For the clearest cascade, use indoors away from open windows, doors, fans, air-conditioning vents or other draughts.

Getting the Best Waterfall Effect

Backflow smoke is sensitive to air movement.

For the best results:

  • place the burner on a flat surface
  • make sure the cone is centred over the opening
  • use a genuine backflow cone
  • keep the burner away from draughts
  • allow several minutes for the smoke to cool
  • avoid moving the burner once the cone is lit

If the smoke rises instead of flowing downwards, first check the cone alignment and surrounding airflow.

Backflow Incense Residue

Backflow incense can leave a light oily or aromatic residue on the burner as smoke cools and travels through the ceramic channels.

This is normal.

Because some residue may also settle beneath or around the burner, place it on a suitable heat-resistant mat, tray or protected surface.

Once the burner is completely cool, wipe it gently with a damp cloth.

Regular cleaning helps keep the smoke channels clear and maintains the appearance of the ceramic.

A Relaxing Addition to Your Space

The combination of fragrance and slowly cascading smoke creates a visually engaging focal point that can complement meditation, journalling, yoga, relaxation or quiet evening rituals.

Different backflow fragrances can also be chosen to suit the atmosphere you want to create, from woody and grounding scents to floral, resinous or fresh herbal blends.

The compact 12cm design also makes this an attractive gift for incense lovers or anyone creating a peaceful meditation or relaxation space.

Quick FAQs

Does this burner include incense cones?

No. Backflow incense cones are sold separately.

What type of incense cones do I need?

Use cones specifically labelled backflow, waterfall or backflow dhoop.

Can I use ordinary incense cones?

Ordinary cones may burn in a suitable holder, but they will not create the intended waterfall effect because they do not have the required hollow smoke channel.

Can I use incense sticks with this burner?

No. The waterfall feature is specifically designed around compatible backflow incense cones.

Why isn't the smoke flowing downwards straight away?

The smoke needs time to cool and begin travelling through the burner. The effect can take several minutes and sometimes up to around 10 minutes to develop fully.

Why is the smoke rising instead of cascading?

Check that the cone is correctly aligned with the opening and that there are no nearby draughts. Even light air movement can disrupt the waterfall effect.

Is residue normal?

Yes. Backflow incense can leave a light aromatic or oily residue as the smoke cools. Allow the burner to cool fully before wiping it with a damp cloth.

What size is the burner?

Approximately 12cm high × 8cm wide × 6cm deep.

Is it suitable as a gift?

Yes. Its bamboo-inspired design, compact size and waterfall effect make it an attractive gift for incense, meditation and relaxation enthusiasts.

Care & Safety

Always place the burner on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

Protect furniture beneath the burner from heat, ash and possible incense residue.

Never leave burning incense unattended.

Keep away from curtains, paper, bedding and other flammable materials.

Keep burning incense and the hot burner away from babies, children and pets.

Use in a well-ventilated room and avoid directly inhaling concentrated smoke.

The ceramic and cone may remain hot after use. Allow everything to cool completely before touching, moving or cleaning.
