Bells of Paradise 32" Medium Wind Chime - Woodstock Chimes - Silver

Bells of Paradise Wind Chime, Just Intonation & Musical Tuning

What Are Bells of Paradise Wind Chimes?

Bells of Paradise is a Woodstock Chimes range designed around musically tuned aluminium tubes.

The defining feature is the use of just intonation, where the frequencies of the different tubes relate to one another through simple numerical ratios.

That gives the tones a strong harmonic relationship when they sound together.

What Is Just Intonation?

Just intonation is a tuning system based on simple whole-number frequency ratios.

For example, two tones may relate through ratios such as 2:1, 3:2 or 4:3.

Intervals built from these relationships can sound especially pure and consonant because the overtones align more directly.

That makes just intonation particularly suitable for instruments like wind chimes, where notes often overlap and resonate together.

How Are Wind Chimes Tuned?

SpyFu shows “how are wind chimes tuned” at around 46 UK searches and “how to tune a wind chime” at around 60.

Wind chime tubes are tuned by controlling factors such as:

• tube length
• diameter
• wall thickness
• material
• suspension point

Changing those dimensions changes the pitch.

In the Bells of Paradise range, the tubes are tuned in relation to one another using just intonation.

Six Aluminium Tubes

This model uses six silver aluminium tubes.

Aluminium is commonly used in musical wind chimes because it combines low weight with clear resonance and good outdoor durability.

Each tube contributes a different tone, and the suspended arrangement allows the notes to sound and overlap as the breeze moves the chime.

What Does the Bells of Paradise Chime Sound Like?

The sound is clear, sustained and layered.

Because the tubes are musically related, several notes can overlap without sounding random.

The result is more structured and harmonious than the sound from an untuned decorative chime.

Medium Wind Chime

The 32" size makes this a useful middle-ground option.

It is large enough to create a noticeable musical presence, but still compact enough for:

• patios
• porches
• garden corners
• verandas
• conservatories
• sheltered balconies

That makes the medium size particularly versatile.

Silver Finish

The silver aluminium gives the chime a clean, neutral appearance.

It works well with:

• contemporary gardens
• grey stone
• pale paving
• modern patios
• minimalist outdoor spaces
• conservatories

The finish also keeps the visual focus on the long metal tubes and simple ring structure.

Where to Hang the Wind Chime

SpyFu shows “how to hang wind chimes” at around 90 UK searches.

Choose a location with enough airflow to move the windcatcher but enough shelter to avoid constant heavy movement.

Good positions include:

• covered patios
• porches
• pergolas
• sheltered garden areas
• conservatory entrances
• near an open window

Allow enough clearance for the tubes to move freely without striking walls or furniture.

Hanging a Wind Chime Indoors

SpyFu shows “how do you hang a wind chime indoors” at around 140 UK searches.

If you hang the Bells of Paradise indoors, use a secure ceiling hook, beam or other fixing appropriate to the chime's weight.

A position near an open window or conservatory door allows natural airflow to activate the windcatcher.

Leave enough space around the tubes so they do not repeatedly knock against surrounding surfaces.

Outdoor Placement

A sheltered or semi-sheltered outdoor position is ideal.

The chime needs enough breeze to sound, but constant exposure to severe weather may gradually affect its appearance.

A porch, covered patio or position beneath an overhang usually provides a good balance.

Meditation & Reflective Spaces

The sustained tones can work well in meditation, yoga or quiet reflective spaces.

The sound may provide:

• an auditory focal point
• a background atmosphere
• a beginning or ending cue
• a simple moment of attention

There is no need to claim that the chime clears energy or produces therapeutic effects for it to have value in contemplative settings.

What Are Wind Chimes For?

SpyFu shows “what are wind chimes for” at around 46 UK searches.

Wind chimes can serve several purposes:

• musical garden decoration
• ambient sound
• movement in outdoor spaces
• decorative focus
• meditation or reflective ambience

This Bells of Paradise model is particularly strong on the musical side because of its tuning system.

Care & Maintenance

For normal care:

• wipe the aluminium tubes with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth
• use mild soap if needed
• dry after cleaning
• avoid abrasive scourers
• inspect the hanging assembly periodically
• bring the chime indoors during severe weather or harsh winters where practical

Outdoor aluminium may gradually show light oxidation or pitting over time without necessarily affecting the sound.
