Care and Maintenance

  • Placement: Ensure the lamp is positioned on a heat-resistant surface. Avoid restricting airflow around the base, as the electrical component requires ventilation.
  • Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth only. Do not use cleaning products or immerse in water. The lamp may "sweat" due to moisture absorption from the air, which is a natural process contributing to its air-purifying effect. Be mindful that excess moisture may leave marks on surfaces beneath the lamp.
  • Regular Use: Frequent use is recommended. If left unlit for long periods, the lamp can continue to absorb moisture, potentially causing salt dusting or crumbling. Prolonged moisture exposure may also lead to a blown fuse or bulb.  

 

Troubleshooting: If the lamp has absorbed excess moisture:  


  1. Disconnect from the power source.  
  2. Wipe and dry any visible dampness.  
  3. Replace the fuse and bulb if necessary.  
  4. Switch back on and use regularly to maintain its condition.  

Additional Notes 
All lamps are checked before dispatch to ensure functionality. Based in the Lake District, where moisture levels are naturally high, we have observed that hand-carved lamps can be more delicate than rugged natural salt lamps when not in use. Following the recommended care routine will help maintain their longevity.

Himalayan salt lamps are believed to improve air quality by attracting airborne water vapour, which carries allergens such as dust, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses. Since salt is naturally hygroscopic, it draws in these moisture-laden particles, trapping impurities on the salt surface rather than allowing them to circulate in the air. The warmth from the lamp then evaporates the moisture, leaving the contaminants behind while continuously drawing in new particles from the surrounding environment.
