For safe, neat burning place a little horticultural or kiln sand in the base (a thin 1–2 cm layer works well) to protect the metal and spread the heat, then choose how you want to use it — remove the lid and slot in standard sticks or larger palo santo-style sticks, or replace the lid and use the mesh for burning white sage bundles, charcoal discs with gum resins, loose resin incense or powdered blends. How to use

1. Place the burner on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from drafts.

2. For charcoal: light until glowing, place on the mesh and add resin or loose incense above.

3. For sticks: secure short sticks in the mesh or use a small brass insert if available; angle so ash falls into the base.

4. When fully cool, remove mesh, empty ash and wipe with a soft cloth.

Care & safety

• Always use on a heatproof surface and never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from children, pets and flammable materials.

• Clean out cold ash regularly; remove mesh for gentle brushing or rinsing, then dry thoroughly.

• To preserve the hand-painted finish and patina, avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh polishing. A soft dry cloth is best. Polishing will remove the patina/paint.

• For heavy resin or long charcoal burns, use a separate heatproof dish — the burner is intended for normal household ritual use, not industrial heat.

• Expect slight variations in etching and hand paint — these are natural and part of the handmade character.
