The Palo Santo Southern Cross Chacana Inca Necklace 4cm is a small handcrafted talisman carved from sustainably harvested Palo Santo wood and worn as a symbol of balance, protection and Andean spiritual connection. Light against the skin and quietly aromatic, it brings together the sacred geometry of the Chacana with the guiding symbolism of the Southern Cross in one simple, meaningful piece.

Combined with the Southern Cross motif, it carries a sense of orientation, guidance and ancestral connection. Worn on an adjustable waxed cord, it can be kept close as an everyday reminder of centre, intention and quiet spiritual strength.

Handmade by Peruvian craftspeople from seasoned Palo Santo wood, each necklace has its own subtle character, grain and warmth. It is well suited to daily wear, altar use, meditation and personal ritual.

The Meaning of the Chacana and Southern Cross

The Chacana is one of the most recognised sacred symbols in Andean cosmology. More than ornament, it is a map of relationship — a stepped cross that speaks of life’s structure, sacred order and the movement between worlds. It is often understood as connecting the earthly and the spiritual, the visible and unseen, the human and the ancestral.

The Southern Cross motif adds another layer of meaning. It evokes the stars that guide, orient and witness, giving the pendant a sense of direction and sacred positioning. In this combination, the necklace becomes a compact talisman of balance and belonging — something that can be worn not only as adornment, but as a reminder of place, prayer and presence.

Carved from Palo Santo, the piece also carries the warm, resinous character of an aromatic sacred wood long valued for cleansing, centring and gentle energetic support. Against the skin, it feels simple and natural, and for many it becomes an everyday companion for grounding, breath and intention.

Because each pendant is hand-carved, small asymmetries and tool marks may remain part of the piece’s character. These details are not flaws, but part of its handmade voice — evidence of touch, craft and material authenticity.

Whether worn openly or kept close beneath clothing, the necklace offers a subtle, personal way to carry symbol, scent and spiritual focus through the day.

Use Note & Diffusing Benefit

To refresh the scent, feed the wood with a very small drop of pure Palo Santo essential oil on a bead or the pendant and let it absorb away from skin. The wood will emit the aroma after absorbing the oil.

How to apply

  • Test first by placing 1 drop on an inconspicuous part of the wood and waiting 24 hours to check for staining or finish change
  • If no staining appears, apply 1 drop to a bead or the pendant and rub gently so the oil absorbs
  • For a slightly stronger scent, use no more than 2 drops
  • Leave the piece to rest for 10–20 minutes, or until fully dry, before wearing

Skin safety

  • Always perform a skin patch test first
  • Dilute 1 drop of essential oil in a teaspoon of neutral carrier oil and test on the inner forearm
  • Wait 24 hours and stop use if irritation occurs
  • Even if oil is applied only to the wood, allow it to dry fully before wearing

Practical cautions

  • Essential oils are flammable — keep away from open flames and hot surfaces
  • Avoid contact with delicate or light-coloured fabrics
  • Keep oils and jewellery away from children and pets
  • Do not ingest essential oils

Maintenance

  • Reapply sparingly, around one drop every 2–6 weeks depending on use and desired scent strength
  • If the cord becomes oily, wipe gently with a soft cloth and allow to dry

Care & Practical Notes

  • Avoid long immersion in water
  • Keep away from strong perfumes or oils that may mask the natural scent
  • Remove for sleep, bathing or heavy work to preserve the cord
  • To gently revive the aroma, warm briefly in the hands or near a safe aromatic source without burning
  • Store in a dry place when not in use
