The Cho-pa Singing Bowl is a classical hand-hammered bowl whose name derives from the Tibetan word for “offering”or “prayer ritual.” Each Cho-pa bowl is individually forged, giving it its own voice and vibration. The precise blend of eight sacred metals, along with subtle variations in diameter and wall thickness, shape the unique sound and overtone of every piece.

Revered for centuries in Himalayan temples, Cho-pa bowls are known for their balanced resonance, grounding tone, and timeless beauty — a sacred sound that clears energy and restores calm.

Each Cho-pa Singing Bowl is shaped entirely by hand through the traditional beating method. Artisans melt a precise alloy of copper, tin, zinc, iron, lead, gold, and silver, then pour it into metal molds. Once cooled and cut into discs, four to five layers are reheated to red-hot and hammered in rhythmic cycles by teams of master smiths until the bowl takes form.

This process — heating, hammering, reheating — continues until the desired tone and geometry emerge. Because of the human rhythm involved, no two bowls are ever identical; each carries its own vibration and personality. After final tuning, bowls are chiseled, polished, and finished to reveal their luminous metallic grain.

How to Play a Singing Bowl

  1. Hold the Bowl: Rest it on your open palm, fingers free so the bowl can vibrate.
  2. Strike the Rim: Tap the edge lightly with the beater to release its first tone.
  3. Circle the Rim: Glide the striker evenly around the rim for a sustained resonance.
  4. Experiment: Vary pressure and speed to explore harmonics.
  5. Listen: Let the sound guide breath and awareness into stillness.

Playing becomes a meditation in itself — a conversation between motion, tone, and silence.

About the Beater (Striker)

The supplied wooden beater is a versatile tool for awakening different voices from the bowl.
Use it to:

  • Strike for a bright, opening chime.
  • Circle the rim for continuous vibration.

Alternative materials like felt or leather produce warmer, deeper tones; larger mallets suit wider bowls.
