Green Tara (Chittamani Tara) is a female manifestation of enlightened energy and compassionate activity, deeply revered in Tibetan Buddhism. Among the 21 forms of Tara, the two most important are White Tara and Green Tara — symbolising longevity and active compassion.
Green Tara is often depicted with seven eyes — on her face, palms, and soles — representing her awareness of the suffering of all beings. She sits gracefully in a lotus posture, her left hand holding the stem of a blue lotus (utpala), symbolising purity and wisdom that blooms unstained from the mud of worldly illusion.
Throughout Buddhist communities, the 21 Praises of Tara are chanted regularly to pacify obstacles and fears. Devotees believe that reciting the Green Tara mantra brings protection, courage, and inner peace:
