Chinchero Shaman Mestana Mesa Cloth – Sacred Andean Textile (New 2026 Design)

This newly woven 2026 design, lovingly named “The New Fresh,” symbolises emergence, balance, and the meeting of feminine and masculine energies. Its warm, vibrant tones carry both grounding strength and radiant uplift, creating a cloth that feels both ancient and newly awakened.

Created with ceremonial intention by shaman for shaman, this design holds the spirit and symbolic language of Andean weaving. While not a lineage Q’ero cloth, it carries a similar energetic resonance and is well suited for sacred altar and mesa work.

Fresh off the hand loom and never used in ceremony, it is beautifully finished, soft to the touch, and woven with fine alpaca yarn for a smoother, more refined feel.

NB: You may occasionally notice very subtle variations or faint markings within lighter colour areas. These are natural characteristics of traditional plant dyeing and part of the cloth’s authentic handmade nature.

A mesa or mestana is a sacred cloth used in prayers, blessings, and healing rituals to hold power objects and medicine stones. Mesa refers to the plains, while mestana reflects the high plains of the Andes — where sky, earth, and spirit meet.

In the high Andes above Cusco, weaving is a sacred art — a form of storytelling, prayer, and lineage expressed through colour and pattern. This cloth is woven in that spirit, drawing inspiration from traditional Andean ceremonial textiles while expressing a new symbolic emergence for this time.

A Cloth of Balance and Vitality

“The New Dawn” design reflects a union of energies — feminine and masculine, earth and sky, grounding and expansion. Protective woven “eyes” appear within the pattern, symbolising awareness, guardianship, and spiritual anchoring. The geometry suggests guidance from higher wisdom traditions while remaining deeply rooted in earthly presence.

The alpaca-rich weave gives the cloth a softer feel and refined drape, making it ideal for wrapping sacred items or forming a personal altar base.

What Is a Mestana Mesa Cloth?

A mestana is a personal ceremonial cloth used to:

  • Hold sacred stones (khuyas)
  • Wrap power objects
  • Create a portable altar
  • Form the foundation of a medicine bundle

Symbolically, the outer cloth represents your outer life and physical world, while smaller inner cloths (unkunas or wachalas) placed inside symbolise the inner world. A mesa tie binds them together — just as spirit, heart, and body are held in right relationship.

A Cloth of Birth and Becoming

Traditionally, Andean cloths were used as birthing cloths, welcoming new life into the world. In spiritual practice, they now support us in birthing ourselves anew as we walk a path of healing and awakening.

Though not woven within a specific Q’ero lineage family, this cloth honours the ceremonial structure and worldview that Andean mesa traditions are built upon.

Ethical & Cultural Integrity

These textiles are obtained through respectful, fair exchange that supports Andean artisan families in remaining on their ancestral lands. Trade may be monetary or in essential goods such as flour, maize, rice, or sugar, depending on community needs.

Aged & Authentic Textiles

Our textiles are purchased directly from individuals and weaving families — never factories. Some pieces are ceremonial and aged; others, like this one, are fresh from the loom. Any signs of ceremonial use are always clearly stated.

Regional Lineage

These weaving traditions arise from communities connected to the high Andes near Sacred Valley and the great mountain spirits (apus) such as Ausangate and Salkantay. While this design represents a newer expression, it remains rooted in the Andean understanding of sacred relationship between land, cosmos, and human life.

Care Guidance

  • Hand wash gently in cool water with natural soap if required

  • Do not machine wash

  • Wax can be lifted using paper and gentle warmth from an iron

  • Natural wear adds character and story to the cloth
