Qero Paqos Shamanic Four Directions • Four Chambers • Mesa Inner Cloth • Soul Retrieval Work

This Qero Paqos Shamanic 4-Direction Wachala Inner Cloth (W018) – Four-Chamber Unkuna is a sacred Andean inner textile traditionally used within mesa medicine bundles.

Known by various names depending on lineage and region — Wachala, Unkuna, Ritual Cloth, Despacho Cloth, Blessing Textile, Centrepiece Cloth — this cloth is smaller than a Mestana (outer mesa cloth) and designed to sit within it.

This particular piece features a distinctive four-chamber design, symbolising the Four Directions, four sacred corners and four energetic chambers — making it especially suited for soul retrieval and deep healing work.

Fresh off the hand loom and not previously used in ceremony, this cloth has been specially woven for us. It is beautifully finished, soft and crafted with intention.

Four-Chamber Symbolism

The four internal chambers represent:

  • The Four Directions
  • The Four Corners of the Medicine Wheel
  • The Four Aspects of the Self (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual)
  • The Return of fragmented energy during soul retrieval work

Each chamber may hold sacred objects, stones or kuyas individually, creating distinct energetic spaces within the same cloth. This structure supports organised ceremonial work and intentional placement.

The cross-axis woven into the design forms a sacred centre point — a place of integration and balance.

Colour Symbolism

The colours woven into this Unkuna carry depth and ceremonial meaning:

  • Red: Life force, grounding, connection to Pachamama
  • Aubergine (Deep Purple): Spiritual depth, transformation and higher wisdom
  • Moss Green: Growth, healing and harmony with the natural world
  • Autumn Orange: Vitality, warmth and creative energy

Together, these tones create a balanced energetic field — grounding yet spiritually expansive.

What Is a Wachala / Unkuna?

A Wachala (or Unkuna) is a sacred inner cloth used in Andean shamanic practice.

It may serve to:

  • Wrap and hold sacred objects, stones and kuyas
  • Separate and organise medicine within chambers
  • Function as a centrepiece during ritual work
  • Hold prayers and intentions
  • Be placed inside a larger mesa cloth (Mestana)

The inner cloth represents the inner world — personal healing, integration and spiritual development — while the outer cloth represents engagement with the external world.

Uses in Practice

This Four-Chamber Unkuna is especially suited for:

  • Soul retrieval ceremonies
  • Organising medicine by direction or intention
  • Wrapping sacred artefacts
  • Client work (placing on chakras before sessions)
  • Creating a structured sacred altar
  • Despacho or blessing rituals

While despacho cloths vary in size and are often larger for full altar offerings, this inner cloth is ideal for focused, contained ceremonial work.

Hierarchy of Cloth Types

  • Wachala / Unkuna: Inner cloth (this item)
