Qero Paqos Shamanic 4 Directions Wachala Inner Cloth (W005) Earth – Andean Ritual Textile
Shamanic 4 Directions Wachala Textile • Mesa Inner Cloth • Earth Tones
This Qero Paqos Shamanic 4 Directions Wachala Inner Cloth (W005) – Earth is a sacred Andean inner textile traditionally used within mesa medicine bundles.
Known by various names depending on region and lineage — Wachala, Unkuna, Ritual Cloth, Despacho Cloth, Blessing Textile, Centrepiece Cloth — this style of cloth is smaller than a Mestana (outer mesa cloth) and larger than small personal wrapping cloths.
It is placed inside a mesa altar bundle to represent the inner world, while the outer cloth (Mestana) represents the outer world.
Fresh off the loom and not previously used in ceremony, this beautifully soft textile features woven archetypes of the Four Directions and protective eye motifs along its edges. Its grounding earth-tone palette reflects connection to Pachamama (Mother Earth), stability, nourishment and ancestral memory.

Earth Tone Symbolism
The natural earth tones woven into this Wachala carry deep spiritual meaning within Andean cosmology:
- Browns and Ochres: Grounding, stability and connection to the mountains (Apus)
- Warm Terracottas: Fertility, nourishment and the life-giving body of Pachamama
- Soft Creams and Natural Wool Shades: Purity, ancestral lineage and simplicity
- Muted Greens (where present): Growth, renewal and harmony with nature
These tones anchor ritual work in the physical world, supporting embodiment, rootedness and steady spiritual development. They reflect the landscape of the High Andes — soil, stone, mountain and earth — forming a bridge between practitioner and land.
Four Directions Represented
This Wachala carries the traditional archetypes of Andean cosmology:
- South: Serpent / Snake — Transformation and grounded wisdom
- West: Jaguar / Mountain Lion — Strength and protection
- North: Hummingbird — Joy and courage on the sacred journey
- East: Eagle / Condor — Vision and higher awareness
Eyes of protection are woven along the edges, symbolising watchfulness and spiritual safeguarding.
