Shamanic 4 Directions Wachala Textile is a sacred cloth crafted by Chinchero shamans. Fresh off the loom and not yet used in ceremonies, this beautifully finished and soft textile features woven archetypes representing the four cardinal directions and eyes of protection. The Wachala, used in rituals for blessings or prayers and for holding sacred objects, is hand-spun, hand-woven, and dyed with natural dyes from 100% sheep’s wool.

The four directions are symbolised as follows: South with Serpent/Snake, West with Jaguar/Mountain Lion, North with Hummingbird, and East with Eagle/Condor. This cloth embodies traditional shamanic symbols and deep spiritual significance.

What Is a Wachala / Inner Cloth?

An inner cloth is a sacred textile used within Andean shamanic practice.

It may serve to:

  • Wrap and hold sacred objects, stones and kuyas
  • Function as a centrepiece during ritual work
  • Hold prayers and intentions
  • Act as a despacho or offering cloth
  • Be placed within a larger mesa cloth (Mestana)

The Wachala represents the inner landscape — grounding, personal transformation and spiritual intention — while the outer cloth represents engagement with the world.

These textiles are traditionally handmade by families connected to Andean spiritual lineages and master weavers of Chinchero in the High Andes.

Uses in Practice

This Wachala may be used for:

  • Wrapping sacred artefacts
  • Client work (placing beneath or upon chakras before sessions)
  • Creating a sacred altar space
  • Despacho or blessing rituals
  • Holding talismans and personal medicine objects

While despacho cloths are typically larger and ideally suited for extended mesa or altar work, this inner cloth is perfectly suited for personal ceremonial practice and sacred object holding.
