Shamanic Two Suyu • Sacred Union • Rainbow-Edged Mesa Inner Cloth

This Shamanic Two-Panel Suyu Unkuna Inner Cloth (WSU-10) is a beautifully handwoven Andean textile embodying sacred duality, balance and harmonious integration.

Woven in the Peruvian High Andes, this Two-Panel Suyu cloth represents complementary forces brought into unity — masculine and feminine, light and shadow, inner and outer. The design integrates sacred geometry, making it especially suited for divination, altar work and personal mesa practice.

Symbolism of the Chakra Stripes

The striking seven-colour chakra stripes add both colour and symbolic meaning to this ritual textile. They may be seen as representing the pathways between worlds — a rainbow bridge of connection, transition and spiritual movement.

In some shamanic traditions, this bridge is also associated with the journey between life, death and renewal, and may be linked with the jaguar as a symbol of transformation, protection and passage through the unseen realms.

It may serve as a display piece, a sacred altar cloth, or an inner cloth placed within a larger mestana (outer mesa cloth).

Please Note: Sometimes ritual and textile products can be difficult to photograph accurately. One side of this item is more of a natural beige than peach, with clearly defined seven-colour chakra stripes. The reverse side is a charcoal mid-grey. Colours may appear slightly different depending on lighting conditions and screen settings.

Two Suyu – Duality & Creative Balance

The two-panel structure symbolises:

  • Masculine and feminine union
  • Light and dark integration
  • Relationship and creative polarity
  • Balance within sacred partnership
  • Complementary forces working in Ayni (reciprocity)

Rather than opposing energies, the two panels represent harmony born from relationship — the weaving together of contrast into a cohesive whole.

Rainbow (Kuichi) & Protective Eye Symbolism

The vibrant edging represents the Kuichi (Rainbow) in Quechua tradition.

In Andean cosmology, the rainbow symbolises:

  • A bridge between worlds
  • Transformation and renewal
  • Spiritual communication
  • Balance between earthly and celestial realms

Protective eye motifs woven along the edging symbolise watchfulness and spiritual safeguarding, creating a contained and protected ceremonial space.

Tawantinsuyu, Unkuña, Wachala or Inner Cloth:

This sacred textile is used in rituals and ceremonies for blessings, prayers, and holding sacred objects. Known for its role in medicine wheels and personal transformations, it is often placed inside a mesa cloth, representing the inner world, while the mesa represents the outer world.

Key Uses:

  • Wraps & Holds: Sacred objects and stones/kuyas.
  • Mesa Integration: Used within a mesa cloth for holding khuyas, representing inner transformation.
  • Sacred Space: Ideal for creating altars and client work, placing on chakras before rituals.

Craftsmanship: Handmade by Peruvian Q'ero shamans in the Andes, some may show signs of use, adding to their authenticity. For pristine condition, consider shaman archetype Wachalas. Each cloth is hand-woven from naturally dyed sheep wool, rich in symbology and intent.

Applications: Employed in ceremonies, as despacho or altar cloths, and for holding personal power objects and transformative gifts around the medicine wheel.
